Top Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight contender Vitor Belfort will challenge reigning 185-pound titleholder Chris Weidman in the main event of the UFC 181 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which is scheduled to take place on Dec. 6, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And he'll do it as a 4-to-1 underdog, according to Best Fight Odds.
At least for now. That line could change dramatically as we get closer to fight night, depending how much money comes in on the Brazilian "Phenom."
The bookies are probably taking into consideration the long layoff Belfort has endured after running afoul of Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). While he eventually won back his license to compete, the proceedings have kept him sidelined since last November.
By the time he takes center stage in "Sin City," it will be a year since Belfort last laced up the gloves.
Weidman, meanwhile, has been cruising right along, disposing of Anderson Silva in consecutive fights, before turning away Lyoto Machida at UFC 175 earlier this month on pay-per-view (PPV). "All American" remains undefeated in his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career.
