How low can you go?
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier -- who was undefeated as a heavyweight -- recently dropped down to the 205-pound weight class, where he made quick work of Patrick Cummins and Dan Henderson.
Why stop there?
While "DC" has his sights set on a division title shot against the winner of Jon Jones vs. Alexander Gustafsson, who collide at UFC 178 this September, UFC F.I.T. coach and weight-cutting guru Mike Dolce told MMA Junkie he could get the Olympian down even further, with incredible results.
"He would gain strength, he would gain speed, and he would gain durability. Look at the photos of him when he weighed in at 205 (pounds). Look at that body, and you can see he's not nearly as ripped as he could be. Where you don't see the definition, all that is additional weight that's non-functional. So we can get rid of that, get him very close, and that's even before the dehydration sets in."
At 5'11" Cormier is shorter than the entire top five of the middleweight division.
By his own admission, "DC" didn't even start eating salads until this year, and has a love/hate relationship with Popeye's chicken. But it would be very difficult to convince Cormier to make the move down -- even with the help of Dolce -- since he's undefeated and ragdolling former champions at will.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
