Floyd Mayweather Jr. claims he doesn't know who Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is, even though she's a staple in the combat sports world and her celebrity is often publicized on the regular in Las Vegas, Nevada, "Money's" hometown.
He event went as far as calling her a "he" in this this video.
But according to UFC President Dana White, who has somewhat of a love-hate relationship with "Money," he isn't surprised by the response.
Because as he told UFC's "The Download," Mayweather is simply playing dumb coy, to avoid putting himself in a corner.
"What's Floyd going to say? That's a lose-lose situation for Floyd," said White. "For him to even acknowledge that he knows who Ronda is, and that she could possibly beat him in a fight, ya know, that's what I'd expect him to say."
White hasn't been shy in backing "Rowdy" if she were to ever find herself in an unsanctioned street fight against boxing's pound-for-pound king, something Floyd isn't a stranger to.
Still, Mayweather didn't give the question the time of day, because, why would he?
Even if Floyd does know who Ronda is, it's much ado about nothing as talking about male vs. female fights has proven to be about as productive as talking about "super fights" because well, they just won't happen, despite how bad we'd like to see them.
Then again, beating men -- which she's done before -- could be just what the queen of mixed martial arts (MMA) needs to take over the No. 1 P4P ranking.
For now, "Money" will continue to pretend he doesn't know who Ronda is and instead focus on defeating Marcos Maidana again when the two collide for the second time in four months on Sept 13, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada (details).
Besides, "Money" already holds a win over "Rowdy" on live television.
Rousey, meanwhile, will enjoy some time off while she waits to see if she'll be fighting Holly Holm or Gina Carano (or someone else). Fights that have a more realistic chance of seeing the light of day.
