As my father always says, never have a crocodile mouth and a parakeet's ass.
The outspoken Conor McGregor would be wise to keep this in mind on Saturday night (July 19, 2014) when he faces Diego Brandao in the main event of UFC Fight Night 46, which is scheduled to take place at O2 Arena in Dublin, Ireland.
Top international Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) prospect Gunnar Nelson will also attempt to prove his mettle, taking on the dangerous Zak Cummings in the co-main event.
It's a fine Fight Pass-only card, especially considering it's the second of the week. Here's how to make a little scratch on the side this weekend:
UFC Fight Night 46 Odds For The Under Card:
Ilir Latifi (-195) vs. Chris Dempsey(+160)
Neil Seery (-175) vs. Phil Harris (+145)
Cathal Pendred (-175) vs. Mike King (+145)
Tor Troeng (-180) vs. Trevor Smith (+150)
Nikita Krylov (-120) vs. Cody Donovan (-110)
Josh Sampo (-195) vs. Paddy Holohan (+160)
Thoughts: The name of the game this time is "flyweights who aren’t big enough favorites." Seems a bit restrictive, I know, but hear me out.
In my opinion, both Seery and Sampo are undervalued here. Harris has been singularly unimpressive throughout his UFC career, while Seery showed some serious grit and surprising takedown defense against Pickett. Harris’ area of expertise -- working submissions from top position -- isn’t going to be very useful if he can’t take Seery to the mat.
Of the three flyweights I’m recommending, Seery’s the least sure-thing, but I do feel he’ll win comfortably and should be betted on appropriately.
Sampo’s method of victory can be summed up in one word: wrestling. I have little doubt he will put Holohan on his back and also has the scrambling ability to both steer clear of submissions and stifle any attempts by Paddy to get to his feet. Sampo, with the right matchups, could certainly crack the top 10 before long and should demonstrate this fact against Holohan.
He’s your anchor of choice.
UFC Fight Night 46 Odds For The Main Card:
Conor McGregor (-425) vs. Diego Brandao (+320)
Gunnar Nelson (-450) vs. Zak Cummings (+330)
Ian McCall (-165) vs. Brad Pickett (+135)
Norman Parke (-325) vs. Naoyuki Kotani (+250)
Thoughts: I really think McCall ought to be at least -200 here. As fun as Pickett is, I believe he’s on the decline. His stand up is slower and more one-dimensional than ever and his wrestling -- while certainly excellent -- doesn’t measure up to "Uncle Creepy." McCall should also be capable of beating up Pickett when he steps in with his telegraphed hooks. Bet big on Uncle Creepy and reap the benefits.
UFC Fight Night 46 Best Bets:
- Parlay -- Neil Seery and Josh Sampo: Bet $30 to make $41.40
- Parlay -- Ian McCall and Josh Sampo: Bet $40 to make $57.20
Someone's going to sleep ... one way or another.
