Rick Story's long strange trip through the UFC continued on the main card of tonight's (Wed., July 16, 2014) UFC Fight Night 45: "Cerrone vs. Miller" event at the Revel Hotel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, when he took on Leonardo Mafra in welterweight action.
He's back on the upswing thanks to a second round submission victory.
Story came out firing shots but that proved a troubling strategy when Mafra drilled him with multiple hard shots that stopped Rick in his tracks. Not long after, the wrestler wrestled his way to a takedown before quickly passing to full mount.
When all else fails, fresh tactics.
Mafra was worn from having to carry his opponent's weight for most of the opening frame as they kicked off the second. He was battling to keep the fight standing, even doing a decent enough job of it for a short time, but Story's relentless pressure led to a slam.
It wasn't long before fatigue overcame Mafra and Story worked his way to an arm triangle choke that earned the tap.
There you have it.
