Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has been busy behind the scenes this weekend, pushing out match ups for its late summer/early fall fight cards. Joining the upcoming UFC 178 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for Sept. 27, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a welterweight bangfest pitting Patrick Cote against Stephen Thompson.
Winnipeg Free Press brought word of the pairing earlier today.
Cote (20-8) has won three in a row, including a unanimous decision win over Kyle Noke last April in Quebec City. Thompson (9-1), meanwhile, also captured three straight, having recently stopped Robert Whittaker at UFC 170 back in February.
That's not all.
UFC also announced a 170-pound pairing that features Brian Ebersole taking on John Howard. The veteran "Bad Boy" (50-16) is in dire need of a win, having put up double zeros against James Head and Rick Story. Howard (22-9) also has some work to do after getting outpointed by Ryan LaFlare in Abu Dhabi.
Fun fight.
UFC 178 will be headlined by the light heavyweight championship rematch pitting Jon Jones against Alexander Gustafsson. Elsewhere on the card, Streaking contenders Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero go to war in the middleweight division, while Dominick Cruz makes his UFC return against Takeya Mizugaki.
