Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) booked an interesting lightweight showdown between Ramsey Nijem and Carlos Diego Ferreira for the upcoming UFC 177 pay-per-view (PPV) event on Sat., Aug. 30, 2014, inside the Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
UFC announced the pairing on Sunday.
Nijem (9-4) went 0-2 during an awful 2013 fight campaign, but was able to battle back and win his next two fights. After taking a unanimous decision victory over Justin Edwards back in January, the former Ultimate Fighter (TUF) runner-up knocked out Beneil Dariush in Abu Dhabi.
Another performance like that and he'll be right back in the mix.
That could be easier said than done against Ferreira (10-0), who apparently doesn't know the meaning of the word "defeat." After a perfect 9-0 record on the regional mixed martial arts (MMA) circuit, the Brazilian made his Octagon debut by choking out Colton Smith last month in Texas.
UFC 177 will be headlined by the bantamweight championship rematch pitting reigning division kingpin, TJ Dillashaw, against Brazilian nemesis and ex-titleholder Renan Barao. Elsewhere on the card, Derek Brunson and Lorenz Larkin hook 'em up in a battle of Strikeforce veterans, while Danny Castillo and Anthony Ferguson butt heads in lightweight action.
