Latest UFC/MMA rankings (women's pound-for-pound), July 2014: Ronda Rousey remains royal

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Surprised? Nah ... Following another insane month of televised cagefighting, the SB Nation combat sports brain trust was (again)n compelled to tally votes and come up with the 10 best pound-for-pound female fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today. Have a look below!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and its new company woman, Ronda Rousey, made a another recent appearance and, unsurprisingly, it was remarkably successful.

Even if it took just 16 seconds for "Rowdy" to snuff out an overmatched Alexis Davis in UFC 175's co-main event.

But, with Rousey facing a decent layoff to tend to her myriad injuries (see full list here), and with the world's leading mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion working overtime to keep the women's 135-pound division interesting, the landscape might be a bit different in six months or less.

Indeed, White and Co. have already inked former professional boxing champion-turned undefeated MMA fighter, Holly Holm, to a new deal (read details here), are motivated to ink former Strikeforce star Gina Carano to a contract "fucking next week" to return to the cage sooner than later and, of course, the elephant in the room -- Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos -- is poised to make her Bantamweight debut at the end of this year for Invicta FC (read details here), which will air on UFC Fight Pass digital network.

With that in mind, let's take a closer look at the current women's pound-for-pound rankings field, sorted by the SB Nation rankings panel -- compiled by, MMA Fighting and Bloody Elbow -- to close out the months of June/July:

1. Ronda Rousey
2. Cris Cyborg
3. Cat Zingano
4. Jessica Aguilar
5. Sarah Kaufman
6. Barb Honchak
7. Alexis Davis
8. Miesha Tate
9. Sara McMann
10. Carla Esparza
