Cristiane Justino isn't headed to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) just yet...
That's because "Cyborg" is expected to make her bantamweight debut for Invicta Fighting Championship (Invicta FC), the all-female mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion where she currently rules the 145-pound roost, according to MMA Junkie, at the Invicta 10 event in December.
Justino is then expected to make a second appearance at 135 pounds -- also for Invicta -- next spring.
That gives her plenty of time to get acclimated with the cut, something that has hindered her from a Ronda Rousey "super fight" under the UFC banner. Then again, with former pro boxer Holly Holm entering the fold (more on that here), there's no telling what the women's bantamweight landscape will look like in 2015.
One thing is for certain, in wake of the Invicta broadcast deal with UFC and its Fight Pass digital network (details here), there has never been a better time to be a fan of women's MMA. For those of you unfamiliar with what Shannon Knapp and Co. have been doing on the regional circuit, you can check out their next offering, Invicta 8, this September on Fight Pass.
See that full fight card and line up here.
No word yet on whether or not Justino will surrender her featherweight title, one she also held for Strikeforce prior to her positive drug test for stanozolol in early 2012. Either way, "Cyborg" still has a pair of fights to win before we can play UFC matchmaker.
Something that is no longer a foregone conclusion.
