UFC Quick Quote: 'Clean' Demetrious Johnson proves you don't need PEDs to be champion

Because all "Mighty Mouse" does is win without cheating.

"I'm disappointed to hear that Bagautinov tested positive for EPO. That's very unfortunate news. But the moral of this story is that I proved on June 14 that you don't need to cheat, you don't need PEDs to be a champion. I am proud to be a clean champion and I believe that talent will beat drugs every time out, just like it did last month in Vancouver."

-- A very disappointed Demetrious Johnson tells MMA Fighting that it's unfortunate that Ali Bagautinov -- whom he defeated in the main event of UFC 174 on June 14 -- tested positive for Recombinant Human Erythropoietin following their flyweight title fight in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As a result of the failed test, "Puncher King" was suspended for one year by the British Columbia Athletic Commission (BCAC). On the flip side, thanks to his dominant unanimous decision victory over Bagautinov, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) flyweight champion proved once again that you don't need to take performance enhancing drugs (PED) and cheat to become a champion. To date, Johnson has never failed a drug test, and has gone on to have a stellar mixed martial arts (MMA) career, which includes a current six-fight win streak, as well as four consecutive title defenses inside the Octagon. All he seemingly needs to do now is work on his pay-per-view (PPV) drawing power. Easier said than done.
