UFC Quick Quote: Dana White will push BJ Penn to retire with loss to Frankie Edgar at TUF 19 Finale

Last call!

"This is B.J. Penn's last fight possibly. If he wins, we'll see what he does from there, but if he loses, I will actually push for him to retire.... It could be possibly watching Michael Jordan playing his last basketball game. It could be Tiger Woods' last golf game."

-- Stop me if you've heard this one before ... okay, don't. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White appeared on FOX Sports 1 (via MMAFighting.com) earlier this evening to promote the organization's upcoming back-to-back event weekend, which includes the return of mixed martial arts (MMA) legend, B.J. Penn, in The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 19 Finale main event on Sunday night (July 6, 2014). It's apparently a win or retire match for the Hawaiian, who collides with the man, Frankie Edgar, who unseated him as Lightweight champion back in 2010 and then again in their immediate rematch four months later. The consecutive losses, for all intents and purposes, sent Penn's career into a downward spiral -- he has won just once (Matt Hughes) in four lackluster attempts since that time. Now 35 years old, and making the drastic cut to Featherweight, it appears that Penn's professional combat sports career could be hanging in the balance -- at least according to White -- if he can't re-invent himself one last time. Edgar has vowed to "make him quit," a notion that has crossed Penn's mind certainly more than once. And if "The Answer" can make good on his pre-fight promise -- and even if he doesn't for that matter -- don't be surprised to see Penn take the retirement initiative. He's a terribly proud man, one who seems intent on going out on his own terms ... preferably with a win ... but his own terms regardless. Not Dana White's.
