USA v Belgium. World Cup 2014 Open Thread.

Alright lads, here we go again with another live thread for the USA football team's involvement of the World Cup 2014.

Will this be the last thread? Only time will tell. It will be if they don't get past a very talented Belgium side who have yet to show their true potential. Could tonight be the night Belgium show the world their worth, or will America cause what will be an upset in the eyes of many?

Lets have a look at the team USA are facing tonight..

Belgium truly have the spoils of young talent in their ranks. Some of their top players ply their trade in the top leagues throughout Europe. Some of the most talented players in the team have yet to show their full potential. They were group winners in what wasn't exactly the most difficult group, and despite maximum points with 3 wins, they have not exactly shown what all the hype is about.

And they have a lot of hype surrounding them. They are known as a 'golden generation'. They have reached a ranking of 5th. They were also 5th favotite to win the World Cup behind, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Germany. They are expected to make the semi's at most, quarters at least. That would be at the expense of the US.

A brief recap of their best players.

Eden Hazard. Excellent attacking midfielder, who creates and score many goals for his club Chelsea. A lot more has been expecting of him, so tonight he will look to be the star player he can be.

Vincent Kompany. One of the top defender for Englands currents champions Manchester City.

Vertonghen. Solid defender for Tottenham and has been excellent with Kompany in helping goals conceded to a minimum.

Romalu Lukaku. Bit-part player so far, but is at times a deadly striker if given space.

Janujaz. Huge potential for a very skilled winger. Plays for Man Utd but is wanted by the top teams in Europe, Barcelona and Real Madrid. He does 'flop' quite easily though.

Courtoiz. In goal has only conceded a penalty, and is a safe pair of hands. The fact he is no.1 over Liverpools no.1 tells you all you need to know.

Dembele, Vermaelen, Mirallas De Bruyne, Mertins all excellent players aswell.

Quality through and through.

But they have not been playing as greatly as expected, whereas the USA have been playing really well. For the USA to hold their own against Germany, beat Ghana and literally beat Portugal, was a serious feat.

They will be full of confidence going into this match, and will truly believe that Belgium will be there for the taking. Jurgen Klinnsmann will be well aware of the talent and threat posed by Belgium, but he will also be preparing USA for every scenario, and will have planned meticulously for this match.

Its time for Dempsey and co. to shine once again, otherwise, it could be a long night for USA.
