Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) -- acting as its own regulatory body overseas -- has released the UFC Fight Night 43 medical suspensions and corresponding injuries for those fighters competing at the "Te Huna vs. Marquardt" mixed martial arts (MMA) event last weekend (Sat., June 28, 2014) in Auckland, New Zealand.
And local hero Soa Palelei is leaving a little worse for the wear.
The heavyweight slugger joins Gian Villante, Mike Rhodes, and Charles Oliveira on the list of six-month suspensions, thanks to a roasted rib suffered in his Fight Pass showdown against division up-and-comer Jared Rosholt.
That's not all.
Here is the complete list of UFC Fight Night 43 injuries and medical suspensions (via The Underground):
Sean O'Connell: Suspended seven days
Gian Villante: Suspended 180 days or until cleared for negative X-ray of right wrist
Ian Entwistle: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact)
Daniel Hooker: Suspended seven days
Rodrigo De Lima: Suspended 45 days (30 days no contact)
Neil Magny: Suspended seven days
Viki Grujic: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact)
Chris Indich: Suspended 45 days (30 days no contact)
Roldan Sangcha-an: Suspended seven days
Richard Vaculik: Suspended seven days
Dashon Johnson: Suspended 45 days (30 days no contact)
Jake Matthews: Suspended seven days
Mike Rhodes: Suspended 180 days or until cleared with negative MRI of left knee
Robert Whittaker: Suspended seven days
Charles Oliveira: 180 days or clearance from ophthalmologist
Hatsu Hioki: Suspended 30 days (21 days no contact)
Jared Rosholt: Suspended seven days
Soa Palelei: Suspended 180 days or until cleared by negative left rib X-ray. Minimum suspension 30 days (21 days no contact)
Nate Marquardt: Suspended seven days
James Te Huna: Suspended seven days
Again, just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
