Ben Henderson needed four rounds to do it but he ultimately submitted Rustam Khabilov via rear-naked choke in the main event of last night's (Sat., June 7, 2014) UFC Fight Night 42: "Henderson vs. Khabilov" event at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Fox Sports 1.
It was an impressive performance.
"Smooth" overcame some early issues -- namely the fact that he couldn't quite figure out the best way to attack -- to score with pinpoint accuracy on a combination that put him in perfect position to finish the fight. It was just what he needed after the close split decision victory over Josh Thomson and the loss of his title to Anthony Pettis just one bout before.
Now, he's 9-1 in his UFC career and while he's unlikely to be in line for a title shot anytime soon, another win or two could very well put him in position to test Anthony Pettis one more time.
We shall see.
