Diego Sanchez defeated Ross Pearson via split decision (27-30, 30-27, 29-28) in the co-main event of tonight's (Sat., June 7, 2014) UFC Fight Night 42: "Henderson vs. Khabilov" show from the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Fox Sports 1. That's what the records will show and maybe a few years from now fans will forget that this wasn't exactly a tightly contested bout, and Sanchez was absolutely on the wrong end of it. Sure, you could argue otherwise, but doing so would be discounting nearly every measure the unified rules have in place for determining a winner in a mixed martial arts match. The fact that there was a 30-27 card in favor of "The Nightmare" is the real nightmare here, and the sad reality is the judging isn't going to get any better and fighters turned pundits like Gilbert Melendez are going to say silly things like "Pearson has to recognize he's in Diego's neck of the woods and do more" on the post-fight show. Whatever. Moving on. For more on Sanchez's win click here, and for complete UFC Fight Night 42 results and blow-by-blow coverage of all the night's action click here.
