UFC Fight Night 44 results: Ricardo Lamas wins unanimous decision over Hacran Dias

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

After his first loss in nine fights, Hacran Dias spent 13 months on the shelf dealing with various ailments. His return to the cage came tonight (Sat., June 28, 2014) on the main card of UFC Fight Night 44 in San Antonio, Texas, in a 145-pound showcase against Ricardo Lamas, himself coming off a loss to Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo.

Quite the welcome back, no?

Dias certainly didn't seem to be suffering from ring rust, walking through some early leg kicks to box Lamas up while landing power shots late in the opening frame. It was clear the former title challenger wasn't getting a bounce back bout.

So he made the necessary adjustments between rounds and came out looking to grapple in the second. He attempted to achieve this by pressing Dias against the fence and dropping low for a double leg.

He failed initially and when they reset in the center, the Brazilian lit him up with combinations. So, of course, he went back to working for the double leg. At least this time he secured a takedown, even if he only had his foe on the mat for a number of seconds.

Into the third, it was clear what Lamas was trying (and failing) to do, but would the judges look favorably on Lamas pressing Dias against the fence, even if he was doing no damage? He briefly took the Brazilian's back and threatened with a submission, but nothing was open there.

Still, most of the third round played out with Lamas pressing and pressing and pushing and digging and Dias playing defense.

The scores came in: 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28, all in favor of Lamas.

Yeah.
