Swanson vs. Stephens live blog: Round 5

In between rounds, Swanson could be heard telling his cornerman, Greg Jackson, that he believed there were two rounds left in the contest.

Nope.

Instead, he went out and continued doing his best to jump in, land a shot, and jump back out without feeling Stephens' considerable power. He was having more success here, drawing blood.

He went back to his big weapon, the liver kick, and once again landed clean. It affected Stephens again, though not as much as the first time, and he backed away covering up while Cub came in with combinations. A hard right landed and it looked like Swanson had control of the round.

It turned into a brawl as they went under one minute remaining.

They threw punches all the way to the final horn, then hugged it out like true dudebros.

Swanson vs. Stephens live blog: Round 4

Swanson was feinting to start the round, hoping to freeze Stephens, who appeared to be recovered from the liver kick that hurt him so badly in round three.

In fact, he was jumping in with lame punches that Swanson was easily jumping back to avoid.

Cub went back to firing off leg kicks while the commentary team wondered if Stephens had suffered a broken right hand. In fairness, he appeared to be sticking with punches with his left hand and shooting in for takedowns.

Swanson forced a stalemate and they exchanged punches to close the round. Neither could find a home for their shots.

Swanson vs. Stephens live blog: Round 3

Swanson was backing out to avoid the hard punches early on. Stephens was firing away, hoping to land that big punch he was promising in the lead-up to this fight.

A missed uppercut was followed by an inside leg kick.

Finally, Swanson landed a body kick that hurt Stephens badly. We know this because he was actively backing away and trying to buy himself time to recover. Swanson rushed him and fired away with punch after punch. When he landed hard enough, Stephens decided to change levels and snag a single leg. That temporarily muted the blitzkrieg.

They separated and while Stephens was still alive, all the momentum had switched sides.

Once he regained the energy, Stephens pressed Swanson up against the fence and leaned on him. This may have been more for his benefit than Swanson's detriment. Referee Herb Dean demanded action, so they reset in the center.

From there, they exchanged punches until yet another stalemate against the cage.

That'show the round ended.

Swanson vs. Stephens live blog: Round 2

Stephens was rocking the big right hand once again, and it was finding a nice home on Swanson's chin. Cub circled away but he wasn't doing much else to avoid taking those powerful shots.

Swanson switched stances and looked to find his way inside. Stephens responded by making it a brawl and spamming that big right hand he was having so much success with.

In response, Swanson thought about a takedown but decided against it.

Finally, Cub landed a right hand after moving inside. He followed up with another cartwheel kick, this one landing though it was blocked.

Stephens scored with a body kick that slapped hard to the stomach. Then, with 30 seconds left in the round, "Lil Heathen" earned a quick takedown. He did nothing with it, but a takedown is a takedown.

Score another round for him.

Swanson vs. Stephens live blog: Round 1

Stephens opened with a leg kick that missed and spun him around. Swanson responded with an overhand but pulled back on it. A front kick landed for Jeremy and both guys were looking light on their feet early, though "Lil Heathen" was more comfortable standing in and trading punches.

Cub, for his part, was bouncing all around.

They started exchanging big punches before long. Swanson broke out a cartwheel kick that missed but had color commentator Brian Stann feeling fine.

Stephens was the first to land a truly big shot, stumbling Swanson back with a stiff shot over the top. Cub recovered quickly, however, and came back with a big combination that backed up his foe. While he was rushing in to continue the onslaught, Stephens popped him another one and scored a knockdown.

The first round ended with Stephens on top in Swanson's full guard.
