Flashback to late 2012, Anderson Silva fresh off spontaneouly destroying the aging perennial not-top-ten Stephan Bonnar in less than a round while hardly breaking a sweat. What followed was a period where the UFC could not put together a middle weight title bout between the champ and number one contender Weidman. Dana even commented on the matter saying Anderson didn't feel Weidman was a big enough name. White also defended his super star comparing Anderson to "an artist"; and after all Silva had just spontaneously stepped in to whoop the shit out of a guy who's career peaked on The Ultimate Fighter. Myself and others felt Silva understood the threat Chris presented.. After all, Weidman was basically a younger faster Chael Sonnen with superior striking( thanks Longo). What happened next? Shoulder surgery for Chris , and just a few weeks later Silva miraculously changed his mind, contacts the UFC and accepts a July 6 bout with Weidman, the rest is history; but forever in my mind Anderson tried to capitalize on making Weidman go strait from rehab into training camp.
Now lets quickly look at Jonny "it's my career" Jones. Bones, also a Nike sponsored athlete with major win incentive money on the line coming from the swoosh. Much like Silva did, Bones also seemed to be favoring a fight with a dangerous opponent who was less than one hundred percent (DC needs LCL and ACL repair). I think it might have been part of Jon and Greg's plan to continue Jon's ascent toward being the "greatest of all time". He takes the DC fight and wins over an injured DC, who I'm sure they would have game planned hammering Daniel's injured knee enabling Jon to use his reach and get the UD. Conspiracy? Well the Nike win bonuses are huge
