The plot thickens...
Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has questions ... and is hoping Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Wanderlei Silva has answers. Specifically, ones that shed light on his decision to hightail it out of Las Vegas when the pee collector showed up at his door.
I guess Wandy's emotional video explanation isn't cutting the mustard.
Silva refused to submit to a random drug test, claiming the exam rep failed to show identification and shoved a bunch of papers in his face that he couldn't read. Not long after he beat feet, the former PRIDE FC champ was removed from his UFC 175 bout against Chael Sonnen.
But he's not out of the woods just yet, according to MMA Junkie:
NSAC Executive Director Bob Bennett will testify during the meeting, as will a drug collector the 37-year-old Silva reportedly evaded at his Las Vegas gym, [Francisco] Aguilar said. Given Silva's status as an unlicensed fighter at the time of his test, the options available to the NSAC for dealing with his actions are unclear, he added.
Ironically, so too is Sonnen, who willingly took -- and failed -- the test that Silva evaded. "The American Gangster" went public with his explanation (see it here and here) but still has to appear before the commission -- also on June 17 -- if he plans to appeal.
Hopefully we can avoid another "embarrassing" situation.
