After nearly two years on the sidelines (and some serious soul searching), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Kyle Kingsbury will return to the Octagon to face the new-and-improved Patrick Cummins at the upcoming UFC on FOX 12 event, scheduled for the SAP Center in San Jose, California, on July 26, 2014.
FOX Sports brought word of the pairing on Tuesday.
Kingsbury (11-5) went on hiatus after having his cranium cracked by Jimi Manuwa in late 2012. The bone-breaking loss marked his third in a row, after an impressive four-fight winning streak that included a unanimous decision victory over Fabio Maldonado.
"Kingsbu" appears to be physically/mentally healthy and raring to go.
Hoping to spoil his return is Cummins (5-1), who managed to fight his way out of the "DC" doghouse with a technical knockout win over Roger Narvaez at the UFC Fight Night 42 event last weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico (more on that here).
Their exact placement in the network line up has not been established at this time.
UFC on FOX 12 has a slam-bang headliner in the form of Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Brown, in addition to a solid light heavyweight pairing of Anthony Johnson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Elsewhere on the card, Josh Thomson will jump back into the fray when he collides with Michael Johnson at the network-televised event.
