UFC Fight Night 40: Lorenz Larkin's last fight 'sucked' because he didn't 'pull the trigger'

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

Something he hopes to change this weekend against Costas Philippou.

Lorenz Larkin has a message for the Georgia boo birds: His last fight sucked, and he knows it.

"The Monsoon" was anything but in a unanimous decision loss to Brad Tavares, which took place at UFC Fight Night 35 earlier this year on FOX Sports 1. Larkin (14-2) was upset with his performance, but not because he lost, but rather because he couldn't "pull the trigger."

From his conversation with FOX Sports:

"I just waited. I just waited way too long. I didn't pull the trigger. It just sucked, but maybe it was for the best because in my camp we've been working on pulling the trigger and not waiting. The biggest thing with that fight was just me not pulling the trigger. I did watch the fight and it sucks because I'd rather be beat up and bloody coming off a loss, than going back to the backroom feeling like nothing happened. That does beat me up a little bit."

Will history repeat itself?

The Strikeforce import is expected to "come out very hard, very fast and put it on Philippou" when they trade leather at the UFC Fight Night 40 event, which takes place on Saturday night (May 10, 2014) inside the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio, on FOX Sports 1.

A win moves him back into the 185-pound title hunt. A loss and it's back to the "Prelims."
