No Plan B: Dana White will cancel Chael Sonnen fight if Vitor Belfort fails to get licensed for UFC 175

UFC is putting all of its eggs in one Brazilian basket.

Actually, Vitor Belfort is Plan B, so if that fails, there is no fight.

That's according to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White (video), who is still trying to pick up the pieces for light heavyweight middleweight company man Chael Sonnen. "The American Gangster" was left without an opponent after Wanderlei Silva decided to play hide-and-seek with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC).

And even though he's been replaced by Belfort, "The Axe Murderer" claims he's still fighting at the "Weidman vs. Machida" pay-per-view (PPV) event on July 5, 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, because this entire fiasco is just one big misunderstanding.

See those remarks here.

Having a late replacement is not a unique situation in mixed martial arts (MMA); however, Belfort carries a fair share of baggage when returning to "Sin City." After failing a drug test (steroids) in 2006, "The Phenom" stirred up controversy by taking testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) and competing almost exclusively in Brazil.

The treatment has since been outlawed by NSAC.

In addition, the Brazilian was hit with a surprise drug test back in February and caused even more eyebrows to be raised when he failed to disclose the results. White helped shed some light on that test at a recent media scrum in Berlin (watch it) and explained why:

"Here's the reality with that test. Doctors disagree with the results of that test. It's the doctors who matter and they disagree with the result of that test. The problem is this: Nobody knows what the fuck they're talking about when it comes to TRT and the testing. It's the main reason it had to go away."

When in doubt, cast it out.

Belfort will appear in front of the commission on June 17, where a decision will be made concerning his license to compete. He will undoubtedly be required to pass a battery of tests before and after the event, but claims he's already been doing that to help expedite the process.

All we can do now is wait.
