Wanderlei Silva had to pull out of his upcoming bout with former title contender, Chael Sonnen due to being unable to pass medical exams. Wanderlei didn't show up at the set date and time for examinations and therefore wasn't licensed by the NVSAC to fight Chael on July 5.
Never fear we seem to have gotten one grudge match replaced with another. Vitor Belfort is set to take "The Axe Murderer's" place against the always controversial Chael Sonnen at UFC 175 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Saturday July 5. No confirmation on whether this will be a Light Heavyweight or Middleweight bout, both fighters are known to fluctuate between those weight classes and have both competed for the title in both divisions as well.
EDIT: Fight is set for a 185 match up!
Vitor has performed all the tests required by the NVSAC in order to compete in Nevada, and passed with flying colors.
Chael and Vitor have often expressed a dislike of each other most recently Vitor said he was embarrassed by Chael and Wanderlei's physical confrontation on the TUF Brazil 3 reality show. Chael has also called Vitor out many times, and Vitor done the same, most recently Vitor called Chael out and it was Chael who accepted the challenge.
Now the two are set to face off, and it should be an excellent match up full of fireworks both in and out of the Octagon if Sonnen has anything to say.
