Erick Silva reacts to Matt Brown loss: 'I let people down' at UFC Fight Night 40 but 'I won't give up'

Joe Maiorana-USA TODAY Sports

If you thought Erick Silva was just going to fade away after getting smashed by Matt Brown, think again.

The win was within reach.

That's probably what makes this loss so tough for Erick Silva. The Brazilian crumbled Matt Brown with a body kick in the opening frame of their UFC Fight Night 40 headliner last Sat. night (May 10, 2014) on FOX Sports 1 (watch it), but was unable to sink in a fight-ending submission.

And the last thing you want to do is give Brown a second chance to kick your ass.

That's exactly what happened to "Indio" in Cincinnati, Ohio, who was pounded out in the third round. But he makes no excuses for his loss and promises he won't give up on his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, according to comments he made on Twitter.

Helpfully translated by Bloody Elbow:

"At first, I would like to thank the people that supported me and stopped by to watch the fight, I know that I let them down. I have no excuses, I know that I'm behind these tough guys but I will always accept fighting regardless of the opponent or my possible win or loss. I know that many will criticize but I'll not give up and I'll be back soon. Thank you all."

After eight fights, Silva stands at 4-4 inside the cage.

He's likely to slip from the official UFC rankings when the list is updated on Monday afternoon. "Indio" was previously ranked at No. 14 and has a lot of work to do before he can find his way back into the "mix." The good news is, he's injury free (despite an initial scare).

Any thoughts on a possible opponent?
