UFC Fight Night 42: Mike Pierce bounced from Brazil with broken hand, Demian Maia awaits new opponent

USA TODAY Sports

Yet another blow to a card that has undergone multiple changes in recent weeks.

Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Mike Pierce suffered a broken hand and was forced to withdraw from his fight against Demian Maia at UFC Fight Night 42, which serves as the finale for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF): "Brazil 3" event inside Ibirapuera Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 31, 2014.

Pierce confirmed the news (via MMA Junkie) on Facebook earlier today.

The venerable welterweight is trying to get back into the win columns following his Rousimar Palhares heel hook attack at UFC Fight Night 29, a submission loss that ended a run of four straight wins inside the Octagon over the likes of David Mitchell, Seth Baczynski, Aaron Simpson and Carlos Eduardo Rocha.

Maia is expected to receive a new opponent in the coming days.

The loss of Pierce is the latest change to a fight card that has a severe case of identity crisis. To see all the overnight changes -- including the one that sent Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva to Las Vegas -- click here. To see the latest UFC Fight Night 42 fight card and rumors click here.
