Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee last week during training (details). As luck would have it, that's the opposite leg that required surgery to repair the same injury back in 2011, which sidelined the French-Canadian for more than one year.
That's because his latest breakdown will assuredly derail any potential return to mixed martial arts (MMA) for at least another year, perhaps more, which is significant because there were no guarantees that "Rush" was coming back in the first place, soured on the state of the UFC union.
But hey, time heals all wounds and all that jazz.
Until then, the soon-to-be 33-year-old movie star is living the good life (proof), and took a trip to the beach last weekend to practice his gymnastics and do all sort of athletic-type things before going under the knife (via Twitter).
The road to recovery will be long and painful, but perhaps one that helps him find his passion for fighting again?
If not, it may be time to say adieu once and for all.
