John Dodson details awkward run-in with 'arrogant' UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson

David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Small fighters. Big beef.

Sounds like John Dodson is doing his best to get himself involved in an eventual rematch against Demetrious Johnson.

The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 14 winner was unsuccessful in capturing the flyweight gold from "Mighty Mouse" at UFC on FOX 6 over a year ago -- his only loss thus far in the promotion. As the 125-pound division continues to grow, the Jackson's Submission Fighting talent could set up a rematch if he gets by John Moraga in his hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, this June.

The top division contender (ranked No. 1) recently spoke about his interaction with the champion (via MMA Junkie) directly after their meeting inside the Octagon, as the scorecards were being tallied.

His words:

"He's a little arrogant ... I was like, ‘Yo man, shoot, nice fight. Thanks for letting me fight you. He goes, 'Pssh, whatever. I know I won.' I was like, ‘All right, cool.' Then I talked to his wife, and she was like, ‘Oh, thanks.' She was the one who was nice to me, not him. I was like, alright, cool."

Perhaps it was the heat of the moment, since the challenger had nice words to say about the flyweight kingpin when they met on other occasions before the fight. Although, based on Dodson's explanations, it's apparent that all may be fair in love and war:

"Any other time that we met, for (the UFC) Fight Expo, for fighter summits, [Johnson] was real nice to me. And then, all of a sudden, he had this attitude and this arrogance. I was like, ‘We just fought. I don't even care.'"

The Washington native should be watching Dodson's fight carefully, because if this gathers some steam, his next challenge could be an old one revisited.
