Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has given Rafael Cavalcante a new opponent in the form of Ryan Bader for the upcoming UFC 174 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place on June 14, 2014, inside the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
"Feijao" was originally paired off against Dan Henderson; however, the promotion switched gears and instead asked "Hendo" to try his luck against undefeated 205-pound contender Daniel Cormier (more on that here).
Cavalcante (12-4, 1 NC) is fresh off a blistering technical knockout win over Igor Pokrajac at last November's UFC Fight Night 32 event in Brazil. It marked his eleventh finish in 12 victories and got him back into the win column after a knockout loss to Thiago Silva last June.
Can he make it two in a row?
Not if Bader (16-4) has anything to say about it. After a disheartening technical knockout loss to Glover Teixeira last September in Brazil, "Darth" rebounded by out-pointing Anthony Perosh in December. The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 8 champ hasn't won consecutive fights since 2012.
No time like the present.
In addition to "Henderson vs. Cormier," UFC 174 is also planning a Rory MacDonald vs. Tyron Woodley welterweight contender contest (details), which would undoubtedly position the winner for a crack at injured division champion Johny Hendricks later this year.
