The main card of tonight's (Sat., April 26, 2014) UFC 172: "Jones vs. Teixeira" pay-per-view (PPV) from the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, kicked off with a featherweight fracas pitting Andre "Touchy" Fili (seriously, that's his nickname) against Max Holloway.
The two went back-and-forth in the opening frame, though Fili was the busier of the two and he had far more success landing clean with his punches. The Duane Ludwig training effect? Maybe, but Holloway certainly wasn't in a hole he couldn't climb out of.
Sure enough, the Hawaiian opened up in a big way in the second, controlling his opponent in the clinch while firing off hard knees to the head. Fili got desperate enough to attempt a flying armbar -- to embarrassing failure.
The pace slowed down considerably for the remainder of the round, and it appeared to be even through two.
It looked like they were headed for the judges as they got deeper into the third, but Holloway blitzed with a series of punches that stunned Fili enough to leave his neck open. So Max choked it until he got the tap.
Wam, bam, thank you, ma'am.
