Arguably the greatest fighter walking planet earth, Jon Jones, makes his return later this evening in "Charm City."
UFC 172: "Jones vs. Teixeira" takes place tonight (Sat., April 26, 2014) inside Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, featuring a light heavyweight title fight serving as the main event.
Jones battles Glover Teixeira, as "Bones" looks for his seventh consecutive title defense against the Brazilian, who has not lost in 20 straight fights.
The main card can be seen live on pay-per-view (PPV), while the "Prelims" will air online via UFC Fight Pass, and then immediately switch over to FOX Sports 1 (FS1).
Now that the fighters who are taking part in this event finished off a week of media appearances and successfully made weight (see the staredown pics here), it's time for their "Last Words," before the time for talking is over and the fists start flying.
MMA Fighting Interviews
Ariel Helwani caught up with Jones a few days out from his championship fight and "Bones" had time for a few jokes before what could be his seventh straight title defense.
On if he feels mentally ready for this fight:
"Oh, I'm ready to go, Ariel. I'm thinking about punching you right now."
On what it's like having all these guys coming after him:
"It's the cost of being the boss. It's just how it goes."
On how it's going to end:
"This Saturday night I'm going to go out there and do something that has never happened before. That's be myself against Glover Teixeira. Just be faster, alert, aware, unpredictable. I plan on just dominating. The plan is to finish the fight."
Both main eventers shared some words with Joe Rogan on their headlining fight at UFC 172, speaking about their chances and how they respectfully predict their fight will go down.
Up first was the challenger, who was all business.
His thoughts on Jones as an opponent and what's going down Saturday night:
"He's a great fighter, he has all the tools. He's a great champion. I'm going to take that belt away from him tomorrow."
Next up was the champion, who walked out with his brothers and gave a few shout outs, too.
His thoughts on Teixeira and what tomorrow night means to him:
"I want to make a quick shout out to United States military. Thanks for serving guys ... we love you guys. Tomorrow night, UFC 172, shout out to black and purple. Those Ravens in Baltimore. I just want to say I love you guys, thank you all for being here. Tomorrow night I'm going for another world title and I just appreciate all your guys' support. I'm going to give it my best and I'm predicting a victory."
UFC on FOX Interviews
Helwani caught up with Teixeira directly after the weigh ins, and the Brazilian was extremely self-assured just hours before the biggest fight of his life.
On how he's feeling after almost not being allowed back into the country:
"Right now, I don't feel that good. I cut a lot of weight, but it's just 24 hours from my dream. It's a dream. It's a dream come true. Tomorrow I'm going to bring it."
On how the weight cut was:
"No, it's normal. Maybe a little easier than usual. I knew this fight was at 205, it's five rounds, so I cut less."
On if he thinks Jon Jones is unbeatable after watching his title fight against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165:
"Well, if I thought Jon Jones was unbeatable, I wouldn't have taken this fight. I'm not going to go in there, because I'm sure I'm going to lose that fight. I think he's beatable and I think I'm going to beat him."
That's a wrap.
