The Florida State Athletic Commission (FSAC) on Sunday issued its list of injuries and medical suspensions for those fighters participating in the UFC on FOX 11 event, which took place last Saturday night (April 19, 2014) inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
Not too bad, all things considered.
Most of the mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters competing on the FOX main card, as well as the FOX Sports 1 and Fight Pass "Prelims," escaped the "Sunshine State" no worse for the wear. Eight, however, will need to spend some time licking their wounds.
That includes Liz Carmouche, who was sat indefinitely for a rank wrist in her close decision loss to Miesha Tate (watch it). Surprisingly, event headliner Travis Browne managed to escape with just a 90-day suspension, despite a broken nose, as well as a busted hand (pic).
That's not all.
Here is the full list of UFC on FOX 11 medical suspensions (via The Underground):
Jack May: Suspended indefinitely pending neurological clearance
Luke Zachrich: Suspended 30 days
Esteven Payan: Suspended 30 days
Thiago Alves: Susepnded 21 days for right hematoma
Marsid Bektic: Suspended 180 days pending facial CT clearance
Brad Tavares: Suspended 45 days for supra orb part hairline
Liz Carmouche: Suspended indefinitely pending orthopedist clearance for right wrist
Travis Browne: Suspended 90 days for broken nose, cut over right eye
Again, just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests, as was the case with Browne.
