Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) suspended Steve Carl for six months following his main event loss to Rousimar Palhares at the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 9: "Carl vs. Palhares" event last Saturday night (March 29, 2014) at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He could end up needing every day of it.
That's because Carl was tapped out in the opening frame when "Toquinho" locked up his signature heel hook, one that has been known to injure fighters in the past (just ask Mike Pierce). While the brawny Brazilian was cleared of any late holding, the damage was already done (via MMA Fighting).
The good news is, Carl won't require surgery.
"MRI results are in and I'm looking at a couple partial tears, severe sprains, and lots of soft tissue damage. NO SURGERY required!! Palhares gave me exactly what I needed, a vacation and tons of motivation! I'll be back and better than ever this summer, I guarantee it!"

Palhares won the promotion's welterweight strap for his efforts in "Sin City" and will likely move on to make his first title defense against fellow UFC castoff Jon Fitch, assuming WSOF can figure out how to bridge this apparent breakdown in communication.
June? July? Time will tell.
