UFC on Fox 11 results: Miesha Tate wins decision over Liz Carmouche

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Spor

Look out Ronda Rousey! .... Okay, maybe not.

The co-main event of tonight's (Sat., April 19, 2014) UFC on Fox 11: "Werdum vs. Browne" broadcast on network TV from the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, featured two former title challengers squaring off, as Miesha Tate battled Liz Carmouche in a race to get back to Ronda Rousey's level.

Well, Tate just took the lead.

Tate was patient early on, a far cry from the aggressive hunting style she employed when she had her second crack at "Rowdy" late last year. She found some success with punches but Carmouche worked a grappling heavy game plan that completely stifled "Cupcake's" offense.

In between rounds, we were made aware of what Carmouche's coaches wanted her to do, and it was exactly what she did in the first round. They asked for control and to continue tiring Miesha out.

For her part, Tate came out far more aggressive, looking to land a few big punches before the inevitable clinch and battle from there. "Girlrilla" worked for another takedown and found it, though Tate responded by getting back to her feet and spending much of the round looking or a guillotine.

It never came.

Round three opened with action, to the delight of a crowd that had lost its breath in the first two, and saw Tate rush forward throwing punches in bunches. Suddenly, and maybe surprisingly, she shot in for a takedown of her own. She spent the remainder of the round fighting for a rear-naked choke. It took a while but she finally locked it in.

And Carmouche powered her way out of it.

When the round ended, color commentator Joe Rogan made sure to mention the judges having scored fights "wonky" all evening, so there would be no telling how they would see this one.

Their decision: 29-28 across the board, all in favor of Tate.

There you go.
