When the decision makers at UFC put together fight cards for events broadcast live and free on FOX, it never fails that a match-up is booked to give the fans a show. That's what Donald Cerrone vs. Edson Barboza was supposed to be at tonight's (Sat., April 19, 2014) UFC on Fox 11 event at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
That's exactly what it was.
Right away, Cerrone rushed to the center and Barboza made him pay with wild looping punches, some of which connected clean enough that "Cowboy" looked wobbly. Still, he came forward and fired off punches and kicks, which is exactly what he said he would do.
After landing a crisp right hand and gaining some confidence, Cerrone was subjected to a couple hard combinations.
Then, suddenly, Cerrone popped Barboza with a jab -- yes, a jab -- that put the Brazilian down. Instead of coming in with an onslaught of punches, Cerrone spun around, took Barboza's back, and locked in a rear-naked choke, and squeezed until he felt a tap.
That was fun. Wasn't that fun? That was way too fun.
