There's just no easy way to say it: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira got KTFO in his fight against Roy Nelson earlier today (April 11, 2014) on Fight Pass in Abu Dhabi (more on that here).
Following the loss, his second straight -- and the fifth time he's been finished since joining the ranks of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) -- the call came for the legendary heavyweight to hang up his gloves for good. After all, he's held titles in both PRIDE and UFC and is widely-considered one of the finest big men to ever compete.
What's left to prove?
But he's not leaving just yet, according to manager Jorge Guimaraes (via MMA Fighting):
"Maybe a last fight against Frank Mir to square off and retire. He mentioned that way before his fight against Roy Nelson was scheduled. He just can't live without avenging these loses."
As luck would have it, Mir is also on the brink of retirement.
But it would be tough to convince him to once again lace 'em up against his fellow Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 7 coach. In addition to already holding two wins over "Minotauro," Mir was in all kinds of trouble in their UFC 140 bout, before locking in a fight-ending submission.
But desperate times call for desperate measures, and Mir has dropped four in a row.
