[I'm obviously ignoring the Tito-Chuck-Randy menage-a-trois, because it suits me.] It seems nowadays this mentality is disappearing and fighters, even champions are having much too much to say about who they fight.
Perhaps the UFC brought it upon themselves with the Sonnen era, it's perfectly possible. But I'd love a champion, after a fight, in the cage to simply say:
"I'm the guy with the belt. I'll defend it against anyone, just tell me where to turn up - that's what a champion does".
I can understand wanting to have some form of input or discourse regarding who you're fighting. But if you're the champion, I don't think you should be fussy about who you're fighting. It comes with the belt - there will be all sorts of challenges and challengers.
