At UFC 171 on March 15, 2014, in Dallas, Texas, Johny Hendricks will look to win his first-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) title as he faces the "heavy-handed" Robbie Lawler for the vacant strap.
The same belt that eluded "Bigg Rigg" at UFC 167 last November, losing to then-champion Georges St. Pierre via split decision (recap). And though Hendricks has that loss to "Rush" on his record, he believes Lawler is a much more dangerous fighter than the French-Canadian.
That's because "Ruthless" brings knockout power to he Octagon, something GSP was missing in the latter part of his career.
"Georges, you knew that he was going to throw a jab, a high kick, a low kick, and try to take you down. That's his gameplan. Robbie, if you make a mistake, we've seen it time and time again, he can knock you out. So you really have to make sure that you stay focused, cross all your t's and dot all your i‘s, and make sure that you stay solid. That's a lot more dangerous fight. But those are also the more fun fights for me. You don't know what's going to happen. All you know is that you're going to step into an Octagon and you hopefully get your hand raised."
According to Hendricks -- who gave his thoughts during this week's UFC 171 media conference call (via MMA Fighting) -- Lawler's ability to knock peoples block off -- a reputation Johny has earned himself -- is just the type of fight that excites him.
Question is, will "Bigg Rigg's" level of excitement drop once the dust settles inside the American Airlines Arena?
