Life after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)?
Aside from Bellator MMA and World Series of Fighting (WSOF), mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters have an additional option for televised combat under the Titan Fighting Championship (Titan FC) banner, which recently locked up a broadcast deal with CBS Sports.
It's nice to have options.
That gives fight fans a chance to see some recognizable names in the form of Vinny Magalhaes vs. Jason Brilz, who join the recently-announced pairing of Mike Ricci vs. George Sotiropoulos, a pair of fights expected to go down on or around April 25, 2014, at a venue to be named.
MMA Fighting confirmed the match-ups earlier today.
Magalhaes (10-7) parted ways with UFC following consecutive losses to Phil Davis and Anthony Perosh. He could be the best light heavyweight jiu-jitsu fighter in the sport, which may be problematic for a wrestler like Brilz (21-5-1). "The Hitman" was bounced from UFC after losing three in a row, but has since rebounded with a regional hat trick.
He's not alone.
Ricci (9-4) never really had a chance to gain any sort of momentum in UFC, going just 1-2 after graduating The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 16. "The Martian" took his frustrations out on Jorge Gurgel just last month (pic) and looks to do likewise against the struggling Sotiropoulos (14-6)
"G-Sots" has lost four straight, two of them by knockout.
