Things could get a bit tense on the set of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 20 when current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis coaches opposite Gilbert Melendez.
That's because "El Nino" plans to bring most of the "Skrap Pack" -- including Nate Diaz, a man who has had a rocky history with "Showtime" (see it here) -- to help train the new crop of female fighters who are set to compete in the Strawweight division.
Speaking to Shoot Media (via MMA Junkie), Melendez revealed that he also called upon the assistance of Jake Shields and Nick Diaz.
"As for my staff, for sure I've got to go with my big brother Jake Shields who just brings so much experience to the table. He's been here for so long, and no one outworks that guy. As well as my standup coach Jongsanan Woodenman, he's my partner at the gym, El Nino Training Center. He's been my standup coach from the beginning. He has more experience than most standup coaches out there. You better believe I called Nick and Nate Diaz already and asked them to make some time to come out and make an appearance and spend some time out there in Vegas."
As for Pettis, he'll have plenty of quality coaching assistance, to, likely bring in his Roufusport trainers and teammates with him to "Sin City."
Melendez received the coaching spot -- and subsequent title shot -- against Pettis as part of his new fight contract with UFC. At the end of the show, which airs on Fox Sports 1 after filming wraps this summer, the first-ever 115-pound women's champion will also be crowned.
Might actually be worth watching.
