Let's skip all the Starbucks jokes and get right to it.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will once again tap the regional scene for a short-notice replacement, as Sean Strickland takes over for the injured Tor Troeng to battle Bubba McDaniel at the upcoming UFC 171 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on March 15, 2014.
UFC officials announced the pairing earlier today.
Strickland (13-0) has been running roughshod over his competition in King of the Cage (KOTC), racking up 10 finishes in 13 wins. While he's yet to notch a victory over anyone recognizable to the casual mixed martial arts (MMA) fan, "Tarzan" does have a tendency to end his fights in the opening frame.
He may need to stick with that gameplan, cardio-wise, with only a couple of days to prepare.
McDaniel (21-7) failed to make an impact on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 17, but made a successful Octagon debut in the season finale, choking out fellow contestant Gilbert Smith. "The Menace" was last seen going down on points to Brad Tavares last August.
Lots on the line in "The Lone Star State."
UFC 171 will feature the showdown between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler for the vacant welterweight title that Georges St. Pierre recently vacated in the main event of the evening (see the epic fan-made video teaser trailer here).
In other main card action, fellow 170-pound standouts Carlos Condit and Tyron Woodley, as well as Hector Lombard and Jake Shields, will all come to blows with a potential shot at the winner of "Hendricks vs. Lawler" hanging in the balance.
That's not all.
