Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has signed and sealed -- and will soon deliver -- a lightweight contest pitting Tony Ferguson opposite Katsunori Kikuno at the upcoming UFC 173 pay-per-view (PPV) event, scheduled for May 24, 2014 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
UFC announced the booking earlier today.
Ferguson (14-3) claimed top honors at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale in early 2011, kicking off an impressive three-fight winning streak. He was upended by fellow TUF guy Michael Johnson at UFC on FOX 3, but rebounded nicely with a legalized strangulation over Mike Rio last October.
"El Cucuy" has 12 finishes in 14 wins.
Opposing him is Kikuno (22-5), who made a successful Octagon debut by outpointing Quinn Mulhern earlier this year in Singapore. While the Japanese import may not be a household name among stateside mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, he is the winner of six straight with four finishes.
And he's been in the game for nearly a decade.
UFC 173 will be headlined by a middleweight title fight featuring undefeated champion Chris Weidman, as he puts his 185-pound title on the line against new division number one contender Lyoto Machida. Elsewhere on the card, Chris Holdsworth tangles with Kyung Ho Kang, while Doo Ho Choi throws hands opposite Sam Sicilia.
