Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) lightweight fan favorite Diego Sanchez will try to get back into the 155-pound win column when he throws hands against British import Ross Pearson at the promotion's upcoming UFC Fight Night event on June 7, 2014, at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
UFC announced the pairing earlier today.
Sanchez (24-7) was upended by up-and-coming prospect Myles Jury earlier this month at UFC 171, after a battle with beef tartare left him hurling in his hotel room. His loss to "The Fury" marked his second straight, after a brutal, three-round war opposite Gilbert Melendez last year in Texas.
"The Dream" hasn't won back-to-back fights in over three years.
Pearson (15-6), meanwhile, attempted to capitalize on two sensational performances against George Sotiropoulos and Ryan Couture, where "The Real Deal" recorded a pair of emphatic technical knockout wins. Unfortunately, his next fight against Melvin Guillard ended in a no contest, and the Sunderland striker was then forced to take an injury time out.
Now he's back and will undoubtedly have his hands full against Sanchez.
UFC Fight Night in Albuquerque will be headlined by former UFC lightweight champion Ben Henderson as he tries to stay alive in the 155-pound title hunt against surging division prospect Rustam Khabilov (details). Elsewhere on the card, John Dodson will rematch John Moraga in flyweight action, while Lance Benoist collides with welterweight scrapper Bobby Voelker.
Until then, let's get some early predictions on "Sanchez vs. Pearson."
