Three days after having his face rearranged by Dan Henderson, former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua will have surgery to repair his broken nose (pic).
Following the carnage in the main event of UFC Fight Night 38 (results), which took place last Sunday night (March 23, 3014) in Natal, Brazil, "Shogun" was suspended by the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) for up to six months, or until his physician clears him for return.
His manager, Eduardo Alonso, speaks to MMA Fighting:
"He will have surgery today. There's no timetable (for his return to training) right now, he will take a week off to rest. He will be cleared to walk again then, and we'll go from there. Shogun didn't suffer any injury besides the broken nose. The CT exam showed nothing. He had no neurological damage, loss of consciousness, nothing."
That's good news, all things considered.
Rua was close to ending the fight himself in the first and second rounds. Unfortunately for him, Henderson was able to weather the storm, before firing back with an "H-Bomb" that sent his fellow PRIDE import ass over tin cups in front of a stunned FOX Sports 1 audience.
