Brazil commission won't review head butt prior to Jussier Formiga submission win over Scott Jorgensen ... yet

USA TODAY Sports

It looks like the submission loss Scott Jorgensen suffered at UFC Fight Night 38 will stand because the Brazilian athletic commission will not review a potential fight-changing accidental head butt from Jussier Formiga without a formal complaint.

Head butt to rear-naked choke finish isn't a traditional -- nor legal -- method to winning a mixed martial arts (MMA) match, but that's what Jussier Formiga appeared to execute at the expense of Scott Jorgensen this past weekend (Sun., March 23, 2014) at UFC Fight Night 38.

Unsurprisingly, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Flyweight was "pissed" about the "bull shit stoppage." Nonetheless, the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) Bantamweight No. 1 title challenger didn't blame or criticize Formiga ... he just wants a fair shake.

He explains:

"He jumps in, clips me with a head butt, I drop, and then wake up in a rear-naked choke. It's bullshit, I'm pissed.... I don't think it was intentional. Accidental or not, it dropped me. I'd love to see it turned to a no contest."

Jorgensen still has time to officially appeal the decision, but he's got to act fast, according to Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) Director Cristiano Sampaio, who will only look into the matter if it's brought to his attention through a formal request.

One that he claims he has yet to receive:

"We didn't receive any request from him or his team. If the fighter does not make an official request, (CABMMA) won't evaluate the case."

"Young Guns" -- who has been on a difficult stretch as of late, winning just one bout out of his last five and currently mired in a three-fight losing streak -- would be wise to submit the proper paperwork.

Even if the claim is ultimately denied, his future with the promotion could hang in the balance. In other words, he needs all the help -- even if it's a sliver of doubt -- he can get to prove himself inside the Octagon.

Meanwhile, his opponent weighed in on the matter, claiming his innocence.

"I don't think it was a head butt. I moved forward and my head hit his chest and he went down. I took the opportunity and took his back. I wanted to go for a leglock, but I lost the position and went for the neck."

Sorry, Formiga, but the only person to ever go down from a head butt to the chest was Marco Materazzi after being nailed by Zinedine Zidane at the 2006 World Cup Final.

Flop Jorgensen did not.
