Every dime. At least that would seem to be the common opinion of most folk who comment at a MMA "news" outlet that has a large following on Facebook, one perhaps...named after a certain fighter. For the inhibited, I am not talking of Mania.
A recent article was posted concerning the UFC's worth being around "$3.5 billion". Immediately, the comment section was degraded into repeated utterances of "Easy to make that when you pay fighters $600 a week; Dana should quit stealing; LOL, promotion X will soon overtake them cause they pay more; yada yada, fucking yada. My head spins every time I read one, and I always want to interject but fear I'll be overtaken by idiocy.
How is it such a mass population misses obvious facts. "$3.5 billion" of worthiness, does not mean $3.5 billion on hand. Ignoring the obvious arguments of liquid worth, there is another thing people forget. Mainly the fact that UFC/Zuffa is shelling out money to more than fighters. How much does it cost to reserve an arena? How much does it cost to ship an Octagon, lights, sets, cameras, and all the other equipment the UFC brings to every show? How much does the Zuffa legal department cost? I'll give you a hint, a shitload, lawyers ain't cheap. There are hundreds of expenses that cut at every dollar the UFC makes. So much so, one can wonder just how far negative they are in when they have a sold out crowd. I can't imagine the gates cover more than payroll. All valid arguments, all generally ignored.
So I got to wonder, is that kind of stupidity just rampant on Facebook, or is it rampant in the whole world?
