Pic: Shogun Rua Broken Nose After Dan Henderson Is Just Not Right

Uh ... gross? Not since Anderson Silva re-arranged Rich Franklin's face has there been a more high-profile nose break. Dan Henderson, somehow, weathered an early Shogun Rua storm tonight at UFC Fight Night 38, only to unleash a hellish right hook that clipped the Brazilian, literally, right on the button. Shogun fell back immediately, while Henderson finished the nose job to score a dramatic third round technical knockout victory. Nasty. Henderson vs. Shogun 2, Round 3

The action was slow early. Henderson swung away with the big right hand but missed badly. His corner apparently told him Shogun's left hand was dropping, leaving him open for the "H-Bomb".

It wasn't landing early.

In fact, Shogun was dictating the pace, pressing forward and firing off jabs and kicks to keep "Hendo" back.

Then, it happened.

Henderson did, in fact, land the big right hand and Shogun went down in a heap. It took follow up shots to end it, but the right call was made.

Henderson vs. Shogun 2, Round 2

Shogun opened with a stiff jab and low kick. Henderson looked much slower to start the round after the big blitz he was forced to weather at the end of the first.

Rua jumped in with another punch behind the ear and used it to clinch. He pushed Henderson against the fence and pressed. They quickly reset back in the center when the Brazilian pushed off.

Henderson, still not himself, came up lame on a takedown attempt. Shogun just brushed him off and "Hendo" almost fell down. When they got back to the center, Shogun drilled his foe with a big uppercut that scored yet another knockdown.

But Henderson would not go out.

What followed was an extended stalemate on the floor. Shogun came down into Henderson's guard, who closed it and held on to avoid taking any real damage after getting rocked a second time when they were standing. Shogun tried to posture up to bring down big blows but mostly failed.

Finally, referee Herb Dean stood them up for inactivity.

The horn sounded without any more meaningful action.

Henderson vs. Shogun 2, Round 1

It took about 20 seconds for anyone to throw a punch and that was a simple jab from Shogun that missed by a mile. Henderson responded by looking for the big right hand, and while he managed to catch it it wasn't clean.

Both fighters were patient early. Shogun worked some leg kicks into his offense and Henderson didn't even attempt to check them. Instead, he head hunted. Another right hand missed. Shogun responded with another leg kick.

"Hendo" started finding his range and Rua jumped in on him. A scramble led to a reset in the center and the feeling out continued.

The action was very, very slow.

There was a brief clinch after the Brazilian landed a knee to the body but the American pushed off and they went back to exchanging in the center. Henderson landed a big shot that rocked Shogun, but he battled back and landed some huge punches of his own.

In fact, he dropped "Hendo" and pounced with a series of big punches. Somehow, Henderson survived to the horn to make it to round two.
