Johny Hendricks won the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweight title last Saturday night (March 15, 2014) after a 25-minute war against "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler (watch it), in a five-round championship slobberknocker inside the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas (results).
Nick Diaz was not impressed.
The former welterweight number one contender told Showdown Joe that Hendricks got his ass whooped for four rounds and looked amateurish on the feet, which could spell doom if "Bigg Rigg" was ever forced to hook 'em up with the wily Stockton slugger.
His words (via MMA Fighting):
"Maybe [UFC] wants me to fight Johny Hendricks. Take an ass whooping. Right to your face, bro. Worse than tonight, because you got your ass whooped all four rounds. I seen it. I seen your little amateur style. I'm ready to fight. I'm ready to fight the right fight. He should never have opened his mouth around me. We don't have no beef, though. I like Johny. I think he's a nice guy, but he tried to get loud with me, I get loud with him back. It's all business. It's a good fight."
Diaz was in "The Lone Star State" all weekend to support Jake Shields and even made an appearance at the UFC 171 weigh ins, heckling Hendricks from the sidelines (watch the video here) after "Bigg Rigg" failed to make weight on his first attempt.
Hendricks hit his mark on his second try.
A return date for Diaz has not been established but by his own admission, he's looking to get back inside the Octagon this summer. While it may be difficult to secure a title shot coming off back-to-back losses, anything is possible if the promotion's first pick somehow got injured or was unable to compete.
