UFC 171: "Hendricks vs. Lawler", from American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, has officially wrapped, which means it's time for those select fighters who went above and beyond in their respective fights to get a little extra grease for their efforts.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) dished out its standard post-fight monetary bonuses to four of the 16 fighters on the card. And it's probably no surprise who's heading home with a second sack of simoleons.
Errrr... pump the brakes. This is where I remind you the bonus structure has changed since these were last handed out. "Fight of the Night" will still be awarded but the best knockout and submission will no earn any extra cash. Instead, there will be two "Performance of the Night" awards dished out.
Got it? Good.
Today, the performance bonuses went to Dennis Bermudez, who took care of Jimy Hettes via TKO in the third round after an absolute war, and Ovince St. Preux, who submitted Nikita Krylov in just over one minute with an impressive Von Flue choke.
The "Fight of the Night" ended up being the biggest one on the card, the thrilling, back-and-forth war of attrition between Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler in the evening's main event. It's a well deserved honor.
Here are the special UFC 171 bonuses:
Performance of the Night -- Dennis Bermudez
Performance of the Night -- Ovince St. Preux
Fight of the Night -- Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler
Again, each fighter received $50,000 extra for their performances in addition to their respective base salaries, which we will pass along as soon as that information becomes available.
