Joseph Benavidez vs. Tim Elliott booked for UFC 172 on April 26 in Baltimore

Tom Szczerbowski-US PRESSWIRE

The flyweight division will try to sort itself out with a battle of former 125-pound title contenders.

Former flyweight number one contender Joseph Benavidez will get back on his horse and attempt to get back into the 125-pound title chase at the expense of Tim Elliot at the upcoming UFC 172 pay-per-view (PPV) event, which takes place inside Maryland's Baltimore Arena on April 26, 2014.

UFC brought word of the pairing earlier today.

Benavidez (19-4) was knocked out for the first time in his career at the UFC on FOX 9 event last month in Sacramento, Calif., falling to Demetrious Johnson for the second time in just over a year, snapping a three-fight winning streak and falling out of the 125-pound mix for the foreseeable future.

Back to the drawing board.

Elliot (10-4), meanwhile, is also coming off a loss, thanks to a three-round unanimous decision defeat at the hands of streaking Russian import Ali Bagautinov. It was just the second loss for Elliot since making his Octagon debut in early 2012, when he came up short against John Dodson.

A win over Benavidez would go a long way in getting him back in the hunt.

UFC 172 will feature the return of 205-pound champion Jon Jones, as he attempts to defend his light heavyweight strap against Glover Teixeira. Elsewhere on the card, Jake Ellenberger will emerge from the injured reserves to scrap with Tarec Saffiedine, while Jessamyn Duke tries to make it two in a row opposite Bethe Correia.
