Thiago Silva update: Bond hearing set for March 7 in South Florida

Jason Silva-USA TODAY Sports

The Brazilian is currently being housed without bond in Broward County Main Jail.

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight Thiago Silva is still behind bars.

How long he stays there, could depend on the outcome of his upcoming bond hearing, which has been set for March 7, 2014, in South Florida, according to MMA Fighting. From there, Silva has the opportunity to make bail, or remain incarcerated until a trial date is established.

Until then, all he can do is wait.

Silva was arrested back on Feb. 6 in Oakland Park, Fla., after an armed standoff with police (see his mug shot here). He was detained and held without bond after the court deemed him a flight risk, as well as a threat to his community. You can access his police report here, as well as watch the video replay of his initial court appearance here.

Allegations of cocaine abuse from his ex-wife, Thaysa Kamiji, would soon follow.

Attorney Scott Saul says Silva was drunk at the time he allegedly brandished a weapon outside the Pablo Popovitch jiu-jitsu academy but did "nothing serious" and thinks his Kamiji's statement about domestic violence was "taken out of context" during her interview with police.

Popovitch also hinted at drug use during the armed incident (read his full statement here). Either way, Silva is innocent until proven guilty.

Expect more details to emerge as his case unfolds in court.
